US delegation calls off India visit, tariff talks delayed.

Published At: August 18, 2025

The US delegation scheduled to visit India from August 25 to 29 has been cancelled, putting negotiations on a proposed bilateral trade agreement on hold for the time being, NDTV reported.

The report noted that the current round of negotiations may be rescheduled, taking out any chance of suspending or withdrawing the additional tariffs on Indian goods from August 27.

In August, US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods. Trump imposed the tariff as punishment for Russian oil imports.

When the tariff comes into effect on August 27, the tariff on some Indian goods will increase to 50 percent. This is one of the highest tariffs imposed by the US in the ongoing trade war.
