Apparel exports reach $39.35bn in FY2024-25, up 8.84% despite political turmoil

According to the latest data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), knitwear exports in outgoing fiscal year were $21.16 billion, with a growth of 9.73 percent. At the same time, woven garments exports were $18.19 billion, with a growth of 7.82 percent.

On the first day of the outgoing fiscal year (July 1), the anti-discrimination student movement began. Which at one point took the form of the 'July Mass Uprising'. During the uprising, incidents such as shutting down the internet and declaring factories closed occurred. During this time, entrepreneurs of ready-made garment factories faced problems in communicating with buyers.
As law and order improved after August, the orders previously held were produced and exported. Due to this, exports increased despite having to deal with instability for a large part of the fiscal year.
However, monthly apparel export earnings were $2.79 billion, which is 6.31 percent less than the same period last year. Knitwear exports in June were $1.54 billion, down 4.04 percent from June of the previous year. Woven garments exports in the same period were $1.25 billion, down 8.96 percent.
According to EPB's data, the country's total export revenue in the fiscal year 2024-25 stood at $48.28 billion. The growth was 8.58 percent. In the previous fiscal year 2023-24, export revenue was $44.46 billion.
Exports of leather, leather products and home textiles, among other notable sectors, increased in the 2024-25 fiscal year. Exports of leather and leather products increased by 10.19 percent. Leather and leather products worth $1.145 billion were exported during the July-June period.
Home textiles increased by 2.42 percent to $871.5 million during the July-June period of the last fiscal year.
However, exports of jute products decreased by 4.10 percent to $850 million.
