UAE-based Abu Dhabi Ports Group has expressed interest in investing in the infrastructural development of Bangladesh’s Mongla and Chittagong ports. According to Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, shipping adviser to the Bangladesh government, the plan is to transform Mongla Port into a regional trade hub.
A delegation from Abu Dhabi Ports Group, known for its expertise in seaport development, is currently visiting Bangladesh.
“Mongla Port, as the country’s second-largest seaport, will be developed into an international trade and connectivity hub,” Hossain stated in a shipping ministry release. He highlighted the port’s strategic location and its potential to facilitate trade with neighboring India, Bhutan, and Nepal. The port is already well-connected through riverine and railway networks.
The visiting delegation also expressed keen interest in participating in the construction of the Bay Terminal at Chittagong Port, as reported by local media.
