Lenzing AG has expanded production of its flagship nonwovens brand VEOCEL at its facility in Prachinburi, marking the first-ever production of nonwoven-grade lyocell fibers in Asia.

The plant, established in 2022 with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons, was previously focused on textile fibers. With the latest expansion, it can now directly supply biodegradable, wood-based lyocell fibers for nonwoven applications such as baby wipes, facial masks and personal hygiene products.

The move is expected to strengthen supply chain efficiency across Asia by reducing lead times and improving access for regional manufacturers and brand partners. Localized production will also help cut transport-related emissions by minimizing reliance on imports from Lenzing’s European facilities.

Speaking at the launch ceremony on 18 March, Patricia A. Sargeant, Executive Vice President Nonwovens at Lenzing, said the expansion represents a significant milestone for both the VEOCEL brand and the regional nonwovens industry, enabling faster, more stable and sustainable supply.

The Prachinburi facility operates using a resource-efficient closed-loop process that minimizes air and water emissions. It also supports the company’s broader climate goals, including a target of 95 percent biomass energy by 2027 and carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

Krishna Manda, Global Head of Sustainability at Lenzing Group, noted that the expansion reflects continued investment in sustainable innovation and will support the shift from fossil-based materials to biodegradable, cellulosic alternatives in the nonwovens sector.

With this development, Lenzing aims to further strengthen its position in environmentally responsible fiber production while supporting the growing demand for sustainable hygiene and personal care products across Asia.
